LEAP is an RDBMS offering the relational algebra as a query language, with full support for the structural and behavioural components of the relational model.
LEAP is not intended to be perceived as a commercial RDBMS. It is an RDBMS that strives to fully support the relational model in its theoretical form. LEAP makes an excellent educational tool for students (at all levels and backgrounds) of database theory.
LEAP is used at Oxford Brookes University, and also Staff, Researchers, and Students from Auckland University, as well as other locations. Please let me know if you are using LEAP.
LEAP is also free, and no costs are associated with its use, and better still, will soon be available under the GNU general public license. See here for more details.
LEAP includes a large number of examples, drawing on popular database texts, including C.J.Dates "An introduction to database systems", S.Stanczyks "Theory and practice of relational databases", and others. The documentation ensures that LEAP is straightforward to install, use and learn.
Databases specific to courses can easily be created to supplement and enhance courses and lectures.
If you'd like to be kept up to date on developments to LEAP, please send an e-mail with "LEAP" in the subject. I've set up a mailing list. I want to move this to a dedicated mailing list server, so if you can offer this service, please drop me a note.
Here's an HTML version of the LEAP user manual. Whilst quite big (around 100k), this provides a whole lot of detailed information about what LEAP offers. Examples of LEAP in operation are also included. Please, take a look! Here are some links to sites containing the current version of LEAP
Send me an e-mail if you'd like to be informed about the ongoing developments, and when/where you will be able to download the source code from.

Standard disclaimer, I'm sure you'll agree. Full details are in the LEAP
distribution.
You are encouraged to distribute LEAP as widely as possible!

The compressed distribution binary is around 190k in size, and around
500k when completely uncompressed.
Simtel is a very well mirrored site, and there is bound to be a closer
(and therefore faster) site than those given below, if you don't live in
the US or UK (and even if you do!), please check out
the Simtel Mirrors page for more information.
Here, then, are links to known repositories containing the
latest version of LEAP:

Please send any
suggestions for ways this page could be improved, or if you'd
like some more information.
It has been completely rewritten for LEAP B0.10, making it much smaller,
segmented into seperate pages (so its faster to download), and contains
more links where appropriate.
