OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 ==================== What's new in this release -------------------------- - Autopilot to install MS metric compatible fonts easily - Autopilot to download and install additional dictionaries - Support for IBM JDK 1.4.1, IBM JDK 1.3.1, and Blackdown JDK 1.3.1 - All of the bug fixes added since OOo 1.1.1 (see the OOo 1.1.2 release notes on http://www.openoffice.org/ for a complete list of bux fixes and changes) System Requirements ------------------ This build was made on a stock YDL 3.0 distribution with gcc 3.2.2 and glibc-2.3.1-51a It will therefore require a late glibc 2.3.1 or glibc-2.3.2 based distribution (such as YDL 3.0, YDL 3.1, YDL 4, or Debian with glibc-2.3.2 or latest Mandrakesoft system) to work properly. Users of YDL 2.X and older distributions should upgrade to glibc-2.3.2 in order to install and use this binary. You will also need over 300 meg of free disk space for the installer and installation. Disclaimer ---------- Please note the usual warnings and disclaimer apply: OpenOffice.org is under continuous development and comes with no warranty of any kind. This binary is simply provided "as is" as a service to the PPC Linux community in case they can not or do not want to create their own binaries. Please do not use this piece of software and then complain that you "lost everything". For more info on the status of OpenOffice.org, please see http://www.openoffice.org Quick Install Instructions -------------------------- Please see the included SETUP_GUIDE.pdf for full information on how to install. This install has two phases: Phase 1, by root: tar -zxf OOo_1.1.2_LinuxPPC_en_installer.tar.gz cd OOo_1.1.2__LinuxPPC_en_installer chown -R root:root ./ ./setup -net Phase 2: By each interested user After phase 1 is over, each interested user must do cd to the base installed location and do the following: (assumes phase 1 installed into /usr/local) cd /usr/local/OpenOffice.org1.1.2/ ./setup And follow the prompts and remember to select your jdk installation location. This build now will support Blackdown JDK 1.3.1, IBM JDK 1.3.1, and IBM JDK 1.4.1. To run OpenOffice cd to your $HOME and into OpenOffice.org1.1.2 and run the startup script: ./soffice Setting Up a Printer -------------------- To set things up for your printer: cd ~/OpenOffice.org1.1.2/ ./spadmin The create a New Printer and pick the correct printing command, postscript printer description file (ppd), etc. Adding Fonts ------------ You can also use "spadmin" to manually add good postscript and truetype fonts. Also check out File->Autopilots->install fonts from the web to automatically download and install good MS metrically compatible fonts Desktop Integration ------------------- Desktop integration for KDE will work but requires the generation of a proper symlink in .kde PRIOR to doing the Phase 2 setup. cd $HOME/.kde/share ln -s applink-redhat applink Known Issues ------------ There are no PPC specific known issues at this time. Please see the release notes for OOo 1.1.2 from http://www.openoffice.org/ to see which bugs and fixes have been made.
