Multicasting - a local network manager's view
This seminar will look at the mechanisms used for transmitting multicast
information over an IP network. It will start by looking at the addressing
mechanisms used to transmit multicast on simple Ethernets, and then
move on
to the way that modifications need to made in order to use more complicated
Ethernets connected via routers. Extensions to cover larger networks,
such
as JANET and the whole internet will be covered. Finally, consideration
will be given to problems of large switched Ethernets and ATM connected
hosts.
The seminar will attempt to avoid technical jargon as much as possible
and is
intended to be of interest to a wide audience.
