MM3-WebAssistant

In the main menu you can choose between the following browsing options:

browsing mode

Offline

In the offline-mode the locally available pages of the cache can be called.

Online

This is the online mode and corresponds with normal browsing but has expanded functionalities available. Files not available locally will be loaded from the Internet and saved to the working directory of the MM3WebAssistant cache. Files available will be re-used. HTML files which are subject to frequent updating and other resources like images will be treated differently.

The classification carried out at the Private edition only with file extension (e.g. *:html). The Professional edition utilizes the transmitted file type (MIME-Type) by the server and save for further processing. At the Private edition there are reductions at all functions due to the simpler treatment.

Locally available files are again used with the following settings:

  • Never reload
Files available locally will never be loaded again from the Internet.
  • Reuse can be set to a period between one minute and one months.
Within the period set, the files available locally will be used.

The optimal setting depends on the application. With a daily newspaper time of expiry should not be set to more than one day, for example 12 hours. This has in general proved to be a favourable setting.

  • Always
In this mode the respective ressources are always loaded as new from the Internet.

Reload

Without notice of the time adjustment for local files they will be load from the server, if the browser request a reload.

Filter

In the main menu you can also activate filter and profile settings. The relevant parameters can be set under Options/Filter.

Frett

Starting from the HTML site currently visible, the Frett (Ferret) retrieves further links in the background, to be able to offer these from the cache in case of a manual transfer. The depth of the links to be traced can be set, along with the number of files that can be loaded simultaneously. The optimal number of Fretts depends on the connection to the provider and to the HTTP server chosen.

Under Options/Frett you can specify the ressources to be traced. If the Frett depth is larger than 1, the number of files to be loaded cannot be predicted. In some cases, a large amount of files may be loaded automatically. Loading can be cancelled by pressing the reset button. Should you wish to archive an entire offer starting from an URL, use Options/Mirror.
