1. Program description
----------------------
Utimaco SafeGuard® PrivateCrypto offers a user-friendly way to encrypt data.
Integrated  in the Windows Explorer it allows to encrypt files by right clicking
on them in the Windows Explorer and entering a password. Additionally, it is possible
to compress the files.

To decrypt a file the user has to enter the password after double clicking on
it. If a user, who should be able to decrypt the file, does not have
Utimaco SafeGuard® PrivateCrypto installed, a self-extracting executable can
be created. To decrypted such a file, it is not necessary to have the Utimaco
SafeGuard® PrivateCrypto software installed. Only the password has to be known.

Example:
After agreeing on a password a user encrypts a file using Utimaco
SafeGuard® PrivateCrypto directly in the windows Explorer. Then the file can be
attached to an e-mail. The receiver can decrypt the file by just entering the
password.

Utimaco SafeGuard® PrivateCrypto is available for Windows 95/98/Me, Windows NT and
Windows 2000. Utimaco SafeGuard® PrivateCrypto is available as freeware and can be
downloaded form the Utimaco Safeware homepage (www.utimaco.com) for personal use.

Encryption algorithm:
Utimaco SafeGuard® PrivateCrypto uses the "Rijndael" algorithm which is defined as the
new Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). The Utimaco implementation uses the
"Rijndael" algorithm with a key length of 128 bit to encrypt data. The
"Rijndael" algorithm is the successor of the DES algorithm and will replace it
in the future.

3. Installation
---------------
For installing Utimaco SafeGuard® PrivateCrypto please start SETUP.EXE.
Please follow the instructions on the screen.
Hint:
The selected language is only valid for the installation. The language of the
program depends on the regional settings of your operating system.

4. Hints
--------
4.1 More information on how to use Utimaco SafeGuard® PrivateCrypto can be found
    in the online help.
4.2 This version of Utimaco SafeGuard® PrivateCrypto supports only encryption of
    files up to 20 MB.
4.3 Multiple encryption of files is not prevented by this program.
4.4 The decryption of self-extracting executables is only possible by starting
    the program.
