Your Show: Send ready-to-post plain text in email to info@graffiti.org and if it isn't obvious, explain why it's a graffiti-related event. Send the flyer later when it is done.
Think globally: Remember to include the name of your city, state, and country.
Strategy: Increase attendance and limit local competition by making early announcements. Last-minute posts might not be published.
Artists: Don't hope that curators will make your announcements for you, because they do it too late.
Do it yourself! Just send us the location and the dates as soon as you schedule a show. Tip us off about other graffiti events you know about also.
Undated: Recurring events, calls for participation, and new publications move to the Ongoing event page.

powerHouse Books is pleased to announce the Spring 2004 release of
Photographs by Peter Sutherland
Text by REVS
A controversial art form and provocative cultural phenomenon, graffiti has inestimably influenced our entire environment—from music and fashion to advertising, architecture, and graphic arts. Yet it is an illegal activity, which makes its practitioners wanted criminals. Motivated by a desire for self-expression and recognition, the act of marking one’s territory is done at the risk of severe consequences including fines and jail time. Graffiti writers are outlaws, unknown artists whose faces are known only to their peers. Treated as criminals by the law and dismissed as artists by the establishment, writers are perceived as either alluring anti-heroes or loathsome vandals, and usually remain anonymous to their audience. But not to photographer Peter Sutherland.
With an eye for style, Sutherland captures all of the gritty glory and glamour of the graffiti world and its warriors. Collected for the first time in Autograf: New York City’s Graffiti Writers, Sutherland presents a never-before-seen chronicle of the people and places that populate New York’s famed graff scene. Featuring old-school legends FUTURA, STAY HIGH 149, LADY PINK and DOZE, as well as COPE 2, KAWS, CYCLE, CLAW, VFR, KR, EARSNOT, SERF, NATO, NET, RATE, SACER, UFO, and DSENSE, among many others, each one of the fifty-three portraits is authentically tagged by the individual writers using the same paint markers that brought them fame. Complemented by over fifty landscape photographs and featuring handwritten text by legendary recluse REVS, Autograf is the only book to showcase New York City’s graffiti scene as it was created and defined by some of the most prolific artists of our time.

The Gallery at Intersection
Opening Reception: Wednesday June 16, 6 - 9 PM
Ala Ebtekar explores the merging of styles from two different cultural traditions spanning opposite ends of the world and separated by centuries - Iranian coffee house culture and hip-hop culture. Seemingly disconnected, both populous traditions are grounded in providing common space for sharing history, news, and information, reflecting the lives of people who are often marginalized, and responding critically to the world. Ebtekar creates an environment where cultures and styles fuse, providing a visual crossroads where contemporary events meet mythology.

Global Sneaker Subculture’s Rarest Shoes to be Displayed in U.K. Exhibition
London, U.K. (May 26, 2004) - 5th Dimension - http://www.5th-Dimension.info - the online source for need-to-know information on global street-wear and sneaker subculture, is launching its first ever exhibition in the UK. ‘Out of Reach: London’ will take place at Shoreditch’s M+R, 15A Kingsland Road, London E2 8AA, from the 11th-13th of June.
‘Out of Reach: London’ will be a globally inspired sneaker exhibition that displays some of the world’s rarest and most coveted collectable footwear, including unseen and unreleased Nike Dunk SB production samples, co-branded special make-ups and artist collaborations. Shoes will be displayed amongst works from renowned and up-and-coming artists from around the globe - creators who are either entrenched in the sneaker subculture themselves or whose work represents the urban collective from which it emerged. In addition, visitors will have the chance to view new models from boutique sneaker brand JB Classics and custom designs from San Francisco graffiti artist Jor One.
5th Dimension chose London as the inaugural location for ‘Out of Reach’ because the city is one of the most dynamic yet most overlooked locations when it comes to promoting the depth of its sneaker culture. In presenting ‘Out of Reach: London,’ 5th Dimension aims to connect and celebrate London’s dynamic sneaker scene by showcasing some of the subcultures most prized rarities - many of which have never been seen publicly on British soil. ‘Out of Reach: London’ will also provide local and international sneaker/fashion brands, retailers, and media the opportunity to interact with their supporters from the UK and across Europe.

Seattle WA: Two New Films - June 9, 10, 11, 13, 2004
from THE INARTICULATE SPEECH OF THE HEART - By TOM SPANBAUER
James Bolton’s The Graffiti Artist is a surprisingly controversial film. Set in present day Seattle and Portland, the main character, Nick, is a seventeen year old skateboarder whose can of spray paint is his way to live his life. Nick is out to destroy the system by making art. In order to make art, Nick must steal cans of paint, shoplift to eat, live without money and a home. The only objects in his life besides his cans of spray-paint, are his skateboard and his marijuana pipe. After the camera follows Nick through a series of lonely gray days—Bolton’s camera gives us haunting images of loneliness and isolation--one day, Nick meets another boy, Jesse. He asks Jesse, "Do you write?" And with that, Nick finds a friend, if only for a few days, to share his life. And his body. After all, Nick is an artist, out to try something new, out to destroy the system. The sex scene is disarming and excruciatingly tender.
The Graffiti Artist is one of those rare films that is what it is talking about. The film is a lovely meditation on art. What it is. What an artist is. What an artist must inevitably choose to make art. And by making these choices, the artist, if s/he’s lucky, creates something fresh and new. And then, because it is fresh and new, the art makes a startling political statement.
James Bolton's second feature film, The Graffiti Artist, will have its US premier at the Seattle International Film Festival in early June.

Quality of Life is an independently produced narrative feature film starring Lane Garrison, Brian Burnam, Luis Saguar and Mackenzie Firgens. The film had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival where it won a prestigious "Special Mention" award.
The film tells an authentic and gripping story of two young graffiti writers whose friendship and lives unravel after they get arrested.
Viewers leave the theater debating the controversial ending of the film and also raving about the soundtrack, which features an eclectic mix from the rising stars of hiphop, punk, electronica and indie rock including Andre Nickatina, Death Cab For Cutie, Modest Mouse, Sebadoh, Mr. Lif, Lifesavas, Good Riddance, Amon Tobin, and Built To Spill.
Quality of Life was shot and edited in the Mission District of San Francisco with the support of many in the area's renowned graffiti subculture.

The art show
will feature very modern works from the people influencing the creative
direction of skateboarding, as well as ancient art forms from the
Elemental Awareness camp. Nuevo Abo is
about the intersection between the ancient and the modern as well as the
urban and natural environments.
Nuevo Abo is the intersection of modern art, natural history; earth based
philosophy, and of course skateboarding. The show itself will be highly
multimedia with installation pieces mixing photography, stonework,
videography, bone work, painting, woodwork, and digital forms.

Magma 22 Oldham Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester, United Kingdom M1 1JN Saturday 5th June 2004. Sunup till Sundown.
Magma is celebrating the arrival of summer in Manchester with its' fifth live street painting event!
Break out the lemonade, vanilla scoops and flip flops because not one, two, three, four, five but SIX notorious visual artists will be spilling paint on three large scale canvasses outside Magma on Oldham Street starting at 10AM on Saturday 5th June.
Bringing the sunshine from Barcelona come Freaklub, a collective of three, known for drawing their iconic and adorable mascot Aunara throughout Europe's largest cities. Painting alongside them will be the Wet Shame Crew from Bristol, whose subversion of advertising billboards seldom fails to turn heads and raise a smile.
Following previous live paint jobs at Magma by Miss Van, AlexOne, The London Police, Sickboy and most recently Dref, this promises to be the most dramatic and colourful intervention yet!
This event is organised by Doodlebug as part of the International Doodlebug Day art festival in Manchester.

Exhibiting a collection of paintings that explore "the secret life of letters."
Influenced by early abstract expressionists and the action painters of the 1950's, this collection features work entirely in black and white and uses raw canvas, oil sticks, gesso, latex, charcoal, and a host of other mediums to create large-scale abstract paintings that preserve only the thread of the letter form commonly seen in graffiti.
Along with a small group of other New York based artists West remains at the forefront of the 'Post- graffiti' movement, exploring new realms and presenting new challenges to the regimented folk art of graffiti.
West's recent exhibitions have included the 'Miami Vices' exhibition during Art Basel in Miami, the 'Hive Sound System' show at Lump Gallery in N.C., the Altoids ‘Wall of Fame’ project in Brooklyn, and ‘Experimental Surf Shop’ at the Dyezu Space in Tokyo, Japan. West frequently travels to Japan where his designer clothing brand, And Suns, is sold. He also co-founded PNB Nation, an urban market clothing line in 1992. West currently lives and works in New York City.

San Francisco CA: June ?, 2004
The hotel des art opens with an absolutely stellar solo show by Sandro Tchikovani (Misk One, BA) in June.
The opening features DOZENS of wonderful new installation pieces that Sandro created specifically for the hotel. The lobby, the hallways, and even the rooms are filled with NEW ART by one of San Francisco's top up-and-coming young artists.
Sandro's work has been shown internationally, and his recent art shows in Belgium, Tokyo, and New York have received a great deal of attention + critical acclaim. It is about time that he gets some recognition in his hometown of San Francisco!
The opening events will benefit Visual Aid, a decidedly top-notch local non-profit organization that encourages artists with life threatening illnesses to continue their creative work.
Visual Aid helps produce, present, and preserve the work of professional artists whose careers are challenged because of a life-threatening illness. The organization serves professional artists from the Bay Area, providing artists with direct services - from art supplies to exhibitions + career development.
Sandro has created a couple of new works that he has kindly donated to Visual Aid for a silent auction at the opening, and ALL the proceeds will benefit this great organization. In addition, a portion of EVERY piece of art sold for the duration of the show will go directly to Visual Aid.

The GBGC was invited in 2003 to participate in the upcoming political art exhibition opening this coming May 2004-March 2005 at Mass MOCA (the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams MA) one of the leading museums for contemporary art in North America. The show, called "The Interventionists," is a collection of work by artists who "intervene" in public and GBGC has used a network of international street artists to create a wall piece for the show to celebrate the wide range of graffiti and street art going on internationally right now. GBGC initiated an open call for participation and has received work from over 250 different artists and collectives from over 16 different countries for their contribution to the show, a wall entitled "On the 8th day..".

I’m a member of a cultural association of young people (dj’s, artists, musicians, students… ) called Perlen-Fischer (www.perlen-fischer.de) hosting parties in Frankfurt. We want young Europeans to get to know each other and meet at our event: "E25 - Europe gets 25".
