Corrections to time and position

On this page you can make any corrections of time and position of a place.
If you have already chosen a place on the page  'City'  or a country or a province on the page  'Region', pivique Astrology will come up with a suggestion for corrections. In most cases you will be able to accept these suggestions without altering them and end the input of your chart by tapping the button  | OK |.

The correction of the time zone (TZC) takes into account the difference between standard time (ST) at the chosen place and Greenwich mean time (GMT).

The TZC of pivique Astrology follow the following conventions:

   the sign is positive for time zones east of Greenwich;
   the sign is negative for time zones west of Greenwich;

Example: placedirectiondate/timeTZCDSC

 Vienna, Austriaeast of GW1919.06.17-12:33+1-1
 Orangeville, Kanadawest of GW1970.06.29-15:31-50
 Tokyo, Japaneast of GW1973.07.19-04:12+9-1
 Santiago, Chilewest of GW1843.03.24-11:56LMT0

Before the introduction of time zones the real time of the place (LMT) was the decisive factor, which is now used in case the checkbox "use local time" has been activated. In such a case the input field of the time correction (da TZC=0) is deactivated.

The correction of dylight saving time (DSC) takes into account the difference at standard time (ST) at the chosen place. With the DSC sign the opposite time difference applies.

In order to link the time of birth or the time of a particular event with time corrections, pivique Astrology uses the following terms:

             GMT=ST-TZC+DSC
or
             GMT=LMT+DSC       (if the local mean time is used).

Please pay attention to the rules of signs (+ · + = +,- · + = -,+ · - = -,- · - = -), if you take any of these terms into account for further calculations.

The correction of position allows you to fix the coordinates of a geographic position in relation to a place you know.
Into the field Distance you enter the distance between the place you have chosen and the place you need to calculate.
Going on to the next field you can select which measure should be used calculating the distance. With the field Direction you select the direction from your point of reference to the new position.

Please remember that this calculation becomes more inaccurate according to increasing distance.

So if you need to find out the coordinates of a small place, which you can’t find in the database, it is possible to roughly assess its position by using the above-described method.
