Rules

The basic rules of checkers are as follows.
  1. Players take turns making moves.
  2. To win
int checkers, intrnational, brazilian, russian checkers (shahki) or pool:
all your opponent's checkers (or "men") must be captured or blocked so that they cannot move. The player making the last move of the game wins.
    in russian give-away:
all your checkers (or "men") must be captured or blocked so that they cannot move.
  3. At the start of the game all checkers are "uncrowned" men and may advance toward the opposite side of the board diagonally from one black square to another vacant black square.
  4. If a diagonal square is unoccupied, the checker can move to that square. Men must move forward only. Kings may move forward or backward.
In checkers kings may move on one squares only. In Russian checkers, pool and russian give-away Kings may move forward or backward any number of squares.
  5. If a diagonal square is occupied by an opponent with a vacant square beyond, the checker must be jumped over and captured and removed from the board. In checkers Men must jump forward only. In Russian checkers, pool and russian give-away men may jump forward and backward.
Kings may jump forward or backward (one square in checkers, any numbers in others moves).
However, in pool, if it reaches the far side by means of a jump, and is able to jump backward away from the far side over another man or king, it must do so, and does not become a king.
  6. You cannot jump over your own men.
  7. In
    international and brazilian, checkers
if there are two or more different chances to make capture, you mustmake the move that captures the maximum amount of the opponent's pieces.
    other games
When there is more than one way to jump, you can choose which jump to take.
  8. When a checker reaches the opposite side of the board, the man is crowned and becomes a king.
  9. If the landing square presents the same situation, successive jumps in a straight or zigzag direction must be completed in the same play.
  10. The one exception in checkers is that when an uncrowned man moves or jumps into the king row, it can't leave until the next turn.
