Subject: [*] SwitchBack Classic 3.4b3J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the SwitchBack for MacOS 8.5-9 package.

SwitchBack is a file synchronization and backup utility.

SwitchBack makes it easy and safe to synchronize two disks, so that both
contain your most recently updated documents. Simply choose two folders
to compare, and SwitchBack does the rest, quickly and painlessly.

The two folders can reside on the same or different disks, or on two
computers connected by a network, or even over the Internet. You can ask
SwitchBack to tell you in detail what it is doing, or let it go to work,
only advising you when there's a problem.

SwitchBack requires at least MacOS 8.5.

Change in this version:

*Carbonized, with a separate version for MacOS 8.5-9
*Includes the desktop folder in the synchronization
*Option to allow older source file to replace newer destination file
*Auto dismisses error log after 10 minutes
*Don't report if file busy when trying to delete a folder.
*Dims the source destination details when the target disk is not
mounted or the alias is invalid
*Only uses a temporary file when doing a two-way synchronization
*Logs sleep and shut down times
*Sound always plays, even if sync takes <20 seconds
*Improved 'ignore collisions' dialog
*When cancelling a document that has started automatically, it is
left open
*An editor can now be selected for viewing large reports (>32K)

OS X Specific Features
*Supports file and folder permissions
*Added support for long unicode file names

Bugs Fixed
*Fixed bug in navigation services with junk in the file type filter
*Disk size preflighting works again
*Unregistered versions show the registration dialog again
*Copying comments works again

Subject: [*] Tex-Edit Plus 4.1.2J - Japanese Version

This is the Japanese version of the Tex-Edit Plus package.

Tex-Edit Plus is a scriptable, styled text editor that fills the gap
between Apple's bare-bones SimpleText and a full-featured word
processor. It's fast, efficient, and has a clean, uncluttered interface.
It's also great for cleaning up text which is transmitted over the
Internet.

Tex-Edit Plus features: PowerPC native (fat), extensive munging
abilities, unlimited file size, Drag&Drop support, AppleScript support,
Word Services support, Speech Manager support, picture handling, sound
handling, movie handling, ability to create SimpleText Read-Only
documents, and much more. System 7.0 or better required.

Tex-Edit Plus can read and write UTF-16 (unicode) text. The new file
format is fully backward compatible with previous versions.

Tex-Edit Plus supports unlimited undo and redo.

Each paragraph can be formatted individually. These new paragraph
settings include text justification (left, center, right, full), space
above, space below, left indent, right indent, first line indent (or
hanging outdent), and bottom border (in one of several line styles).
Each paragraph can also have its own line spacing (in one point
increments) and dominant text direction (useful for right-to-left
scripts).

NEW IN 4.1.2 -- Tex-Edit Plus 4.1.2 features improved implementation of
the External Editor Protocol. The External Editor Protocol allows
Tex-Edit to act as a text editor for an ftp client such as Fetch,
Interarchy, NetFinder, or Transmit. Tell Fetch, Interarchy, etc. to
"Edit with Tex-Edit". When Tex-Edit saves the document, the remote file
is automatically updated by Fetch. Slick!

The character count/status area (bottom left corner of each window) now
continuously displays the line and column of the insertion point. If a
single character (byte) is selected, then its hex value is displayed. If
multple characters are selected, then the selection size (character
count) is displayed.

A new multiple undo window property can be used to turn off the
unlimited undo/redo feature. Setting multiple undo to false will
dramatically speed up some long, repetitive scripts.

The minimum window size has been decreased and several small bugs were
fixed.

Subject: determining true IP of DSL line

I recently got a DSL line and am bumping up against some of its
limitations. I'm hoping some of the helpful folk here at Info-Mac can
assist, or at least clarify my situation.

Before using DSL, I used to host Diablo II games on my Mac. No
problems but slow.

The problem is now that I can't get an IP address that works. That
is, I get an IP address from the game but when I tell those who want
to join the game the address, they can't join because it's not the
real address. I've had this problem on a PC before but using a DOS
prompt and ipconfig brings up the true IP address. On the Mac, I
usually find the correct address in the TCP/IP control panel but now
that is not the right address either.

My ISP says IP addresses are dynamically assigned by their server.
Fair enough. When I ask them if I can track the number that has been
assigned down, they start their favorite mantra: "We don't support
that function."

I don't know if this is the truth or if they really can't help me. My
ISP has a history of claiming things can't be done because they don't
want them to be done (for fear that it'll suck up more of their
precious bandwidth...they want me to buy their service, they just
would prefer I used it as little as possible).

My question is, can I track down the IP address using some Mac
software? Or is it impossible?

Presently, I have IPNetMonitor and IPNetRouter which appear to be
pretty serious tools for working with my line but I'm not very savvy
about such things. I use IPNetRouter to share my line with other
machines on my network (something else my ISP doesn't support, of
course...yet here I can do it) on a G3 DT/266 with plenty of RAM (160
MB). I'm running System 9.04.

By the way, it's thanks to this group that I got my DSL modem running
at all. Someone else had a problem connecting their modem to their
machine/hub and the need to use a crossover cable was discussed.
There's value in every question and answer given here, even when it's
someone else's problem initially. It can become your problem later.

Thanks in advance.

Shari
