This is important to consider.  I recommend NOT making a decision so soon.
I think we need to create a spreadsheet of pros and cons of sync mode, and
the various methods of implementation.

If worse comes to worse, just put it back in again.  There's no harm in
trying new things.  If this doesn't work, then go back to the older
source.  :-)
