Under EvStack, this will contain the "stack ID" which generated the
event.  That doesn't really tell you much anyway.

The basic idea is that it allows programs to _differentiate_ devices, so
if you have two mice, you can tell which events goes with which mouse by
tracking the events' device field.  The values can potentially be
arbitrary.
