Re: libggi3d

OK, I've been lurking on this list for a while but it is time for me
to jump in. I'm considering writing a GGI driver for the Velocity 128
video card. This will natuarally depend a lot on how cooperative STB
is in forking over tech specs. Note that my primary goal for doing this
is to use the card's 3D capabilites on a Linux system, so I am very
interested in the GGI3D effort. I am still in the process of reading
the available GGI documentation and list archives... but hope to be up
to *productive* speed soon.

I am also working with Mesa, with the goal that 3D hardware support
added to GGI will find its way up into Mesa. It seems others on this
list have similar thoughts. I look forward to helping with this effort.

I've sent off letters to STB and S3 requesting technical specifications
for their 3D accellerated cards. I made the request as a representative
of my company GLACI, so hopefully they will be taken seriously. I've
been dissapointed in the past by hardware vendors and their lack of
support for non-microsoft software efforts. If anyone out there has
already had luck getting tech info out of these companies (specifically
about the STB Velocity 128 and the S3 ViRGE/GX) I would love to hear
about it.

Thats it for now. I need to do a lot more reading, compiling, and
playing before I can even ask intelligent questions. Nevertheless, If
anyone has any advice that will speed me on the path of knowlege, I
will welcome it.

Later,
