Got it.  I still don't know the difference between fbdev and fbcon though

Ahh... Purrfect :)
The best of both worlds - as long as GGI console can be separated and
handed to Linus as a set of patches :)
[or more likely a "core" patchset that gives basic console
(kbd/mouse/video) and additional patches to cover for, say, joystick,
etc...

Who knows?  It could actually be accepted this time :)
