Whatever is compiled into the kernel.  I haven't set up any special
fbcon drivers.  Just in LILO, I have a 'vga=ask', and I enter the mode. 
Well, now it's in lilo.config to boot to 1024x768x16M.  Hopefully I'll
find a logical reason for it sooner or later. ;)
