on error in console - found culprit!

It's bash.  I just upgraded on a whim from the one in debian/hamm to
debian/slink and whadya know it now works.

Anyone who sees this (ie: resizing consoles causes bash to messup) upgrade
bash!  (now I can switch from 640x480x256 to 1024x768x16bpp + compressed
fonts and everything will work (and need a magnifying glass on me 14"
monitor :) *giggle*
